Jacob Knight studied Physics in the U.K. and taught for three years in a government school in Dodoma, Tanzania, where he developed a knowledge of Swahili that he maintains by visiting Tanzania as often as possible and by conversing with Tanzanian friends in London. In his spare time he dabbles in web design and programming. He wrote an early version of a Swahili parser in javascript in around 2000 which later formed the basis for his work on the Kamusi Project Parser introduced in 2006. He currently works as an associate mechanical engineer designing building services all around the world with Ove Arup & Partners, specializing in low energy and carbon neutral developments.
