I found out the hard way that a video tape received as a gift in Tanzania can not be played/viewed on a standard VHS video tape player in America. The video tape is formatted differently in each country and is not compatable. Fortunately, I was able to have the video tape converted from the Tanzanian format to the VHS format in the US losing only a little of the quality of the tape.
My question....Does anyone know if audio CD's made in Tanzania are compatible with audio CD players in the US? Are audio CD's made in the US compatible with audio CD players in Tanzania?
What about DVD's? Is the Tanzania technology for DVD's (and viewing on a DVD player) the same in both countries, making it possible to share the same movies on DVD between the 2 countries?
Asante.

DVD's all depend-they're regionally formatted and come in a lot of options. You would need to ask the individual receiving/sending them-we're typically region 1 in the States. CD's should play anywhere.

Software/patches exist which easily alter the regional tie-in of DVDs. An internet search will be helpful.
