Jambo!
I'm a new member, I'm wondering if anyone know something about the connection between the 'taarab' lyric (taarab sung poetry) on the East coast of Africa and the 'chimurenga songs' in Zimbabwe. (i refer to the music genre -chimurenga).
There may be some influences between Kenya/Tanzanian dance music of the 1970s (eg Super Mazembe) and Chimurenga which I guess was developing at the same time, but I find it difficult to imagine any links with Taarab which is a very different style of music. Chimurenga is to do with the liberation struggle and there were training bases in Tanzania and Zambia for liberation fighters (both Zimbabwe and ANC) at that time.
Je kuna uhusiano?? What do
Je kuna uhusiano?? What do you know about a connection ? The bit I read about Chimurenga Music does not look like anything in Taarab I know.
There may be some influences
