Hello,
I am just starting to learn Swahili after a trip I made to Tanzania. I am a computer professional and have decided to use my talents to create a Swahili version of Mac OS X that will be free to the world.
Therefore, I would like to enlist the aid of anyone who is interested in helping provide proper translations of messages, menus, etc. that appear in Mac OS X. What I propose is I get the texts that need translation and divide them among the volunteers. When I have integrated them together, I can send them out to all for peer review. In the end, the hope is to have a Swahili version of Mac OS X that anyone with a Macintosh running Mac OS X will be able to download and use for free.
If you are willing to help or know of any resources that would be helpful to me, please contact me.
Thank you very much.

RE: Swahili version of Mac OS X
An interesting idea & good luck.
One issue you may face is that there are few Swahili words (that I know of anyway) for computer terms - indeed the commonest Swahili word for computer is just "komputa". I don't know of any widely used & understood terms for mouse, screen, disk, modem, dialogue box...
I think there is a committee somewhere in Tanzania which makes up Swahili words for "internet" etc etc but I don't know if these are widely used (or even where they are listed).
Nevertheless I don't mind helping if required.

I would love to help with
I would love to help with this if I can be of any assistance. I have been searching endlessly for a way to get the swahili language onto my mac and as I am sure you have also realized, there are none. I would love to help you out with this project.
