Can you translate a passage for me, or is there a "translation" site that can convert between Swahili and English?

Probably not, and not yet. We provide this site as a free public service, but we usually do not have the time to undertake additional translation work. If you are willing and able to pay for professional translation services, please contact us and we can put you in touch with professional translators for Swahili or other African languages. If you want the help of volunteers to translate short Swahili passages, you might try posting a polite query on the Swahili discussion forum.

In 2006 we added the ability to parse conjugated Swahili verbs to our Search Engine.

Google now has an Online Swahili Translation service. It is a nice start, but still has a long way to go before the translations are anywhere close to accurate. A big part of the problem is that the Google translation system does not know how to deal with verbs. If the Google Translate service were to embed the verb rules for the Kamusi Project parser, more accurate translations would probably result. We've talked about combining the systems, but so far nothing has resulted - keep checking, perhaps a good Swahili machine translation program will emerge in the coming years...
